This was fun, I enjoyed it very much even though I'm not so good at cryptics. Only thing is that 8D is an indirect anagram, which some cryptic solvers may consider to be unfair.

An indirect anagram is where you first have to find a synonym for a word or words and then anagram it, here the letters for the anagram are provided in the clue and therefore the setter is not at fault in any way!

The puzzle has been edited since my original comment, it previously read "narcotic" rather than "opiate"
Fun puzzle overall. I could pick a couple of nits here but what I'd like to point out is that in 8A you can only use "raising" in a down clue as it suggests an upward movement.
