Having every three-letter entry in the grid feature two "true" letters and a "lying" one is a brilliant concept. But since 1a1AEnemy[---] is FOE and 1d1DAffirmative[---] is YES, I’d have thought that the rebus FY belonged at the crossing, Y being the lying letter in 1a1AEnemy[---] and F, the one in 1d1DAffirmative[---]. Instead, it seems that the solution is H because it’s lying both ways (while producing HOE1AEnemy[---] in 1a1AEnemy[---] and HES1DAffirmative[---] in 1d1DAffirmative[---]). Okay, but why can’t it be R (ROE/RES) or W (WOE/WES)? For that matter, why is there an E at the crossing of 9a9AWager[---]'s BET and 11d11DPut on, as armor[---]'s DON (forming BEE9AWager[---] and EON11DPut on, as armor[---]) and not an N (BEN/NON), an S (BES/SON) or a Y (BEY/YON)?

I guess that's true; I could've foolproofed it a little more. I was operating under the assumption that only the most common of words would be considered valid corrections (as opposed to WES, a nickname, and BEY, a foreign historical title).
