        Deputy = dep, hands = paws, then turn it around (swapped around is both the clue and the reversal indicator)

        Some nice clues. I liked the &lit ones especially! Help me with 23A. Is it supposed to be an anagram of "to C.S. Lewis"? If so, where did the W go?

          You're almost there! "with one" is meant to be indicating both W and I, for each word, so remove them and anagram the rest of 'cslewis'
