    Thanks a lot! Yeah 4a4AOne pair shelter poor for school of Islam (5)[-----] is a lesser known word: I used it because for this puzzle I wanted to have all answers contain "ad" (a bit of an inside joke with a friend)

  Thanks for an entertaining puzzle. 1D1DDrink back and about one goodbye (5)[-----] As it is a vertical word, "Drink up" might be a better surface reading. 3D3DA dirt forms a triumvirate (5)[-----] "Dirt forms about a triumvirate" is a better surface reading. I hope you don't mind these suggestions.

  good fun!! i got stuck on 4A4AOne pair shelter poor for school of Islam (5)[-----] too – i even checked https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Islam_branches_and_schools..png , but that didn't help!! nice puzzle
