Thanks for the puzzle! Just a few things I noticed that don’t quite work:
For 13A, the construction has you putting CO into RENAISSANCE, which is a nice device, but it’s missing one of the N’s of RECONNAISSANCE.
For 21A, the anagram fodder is only 13 letters, it’s missing a T
For 17A: not sure what the device is here, is it a homophone of /Anne/? If so, that definitely doesn’t work in my accent ahah, what accent does it work in? 19A: not sure [Model] is a fair definition for HERO, though I think [submarine] is great!
On the whole though, very solid stuff and an enjoyable puzzle, nice work!

19A, a role model is a hero
17A, aunt is a family member, and also ants have queens
I'm with you on 13 A
Yeah, I got that for 19A, I’m just not convinced that role model is a strong enough definition for HERO. Sure, a hero might be a role model, but I’m not convinced that it defines the word fairly — all just my opinion of course.
Thanks re 17A! That makes much more sense, although the ant/aunt homophone also doesn’t work in my accent ahaha
Thanks for the feedback! You're fully right on 13A and 21A, those are my mistake. Nick717 was right for what I was going for on 17A. For 19A, I knew model was a stretch for hero, but a few thesauruses thought they were synonyms and I really liked the surface, which may have made me more lenient on it than I maybe should have been lol

Can you please explain 3D and 7D? I got them but I don't know why.
