Thanks for solving! 24D is a tricky one, and relies on some cryptic abbreviations that if I'm being honest I don't love, but used here to get the surface to work. "turn" is "go" (as in have a go), girls is "g," and "OS" is an abbreviation for 'ordinary seaman,' and was historically used to describe sailors. I have only ever seen or heard that last one in cryptics, I'm not sure it's really used anymore outside of it, but its a good stock clue to know because a lot of older/British setters use it. I'll try to avoid using it in the future, because I don't really think it's something anyone outside that community knows about
Thanks for the clarification. I had tentatively decided that "OS" must mean "sailor" somehow but hadn't gotten around to googling it yet. The rest of the puzzle was great.
This was great! A really clever and fun solve. 14 across made me spray my keyboard, and I thought 14 across and 23 across were also really inspired. Loved it all, though.
