Constructor's Note
I've been thinking about building a crossword for some time, and had the kernels of a few clues knocking about. Finally tried pulling everything together - and here it is! Have new-found respect for seasoned setters, this isn't an easy task!

Figuring out the main theme of the puzzle was an awesome moment, I had never experienced anything like this in a cryptic. If this really is your first attempt at a puzzle, it was a magnificent start, and I really hope you make more of these :D!

this being your first attempt was actually impressive, hardest cryptic ive ever done. did this with a friend and we were just mindblown when we figured that most answers/clues were related to sullivan and gilbert... we couldn't figure out why some answers were their answers tho. but overall banger puzzle, keep setting! :)
