Meta Prompt
The answer to the meta is something that would surely have felt the bern had history gone differently
This is my first ever crossword, so go easy on me. It's also a meta because I've been getting into these recently and thought I'd give it a try. Turns out these things are really hard to construct! I've definitely made some concessions to crossword conventions in order to get the grid filled. But hopefully I've made up for any shortcomings with some fun cluing. Enjoy! Answer and explanation: https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?t=1153&p=67812#p65918
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here: https://www.ephesusscroll.com/about/interest4.html. US$10 gives you access to 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game. You won't quite know what to expect: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, sometimes all of those, and sometimes none! One thing is for sure, these are some of the more creative metas my brain has been able to come up with. And there's more: this time there's a mega-meta!

Awesome first puzzle! I loved how you made the most out of any time you broke convention, like SI25DWhat's this? A two-letter word? "Yes," replied Juan[--] or NO46DWhat's this? Another 2 letter word? Yes, but it's also opposite day[--]. Can you explain how the meta works?

The direction "down" is involved (puzzle title, clue for the central word). There is also a clue in CEOS5ABusiness leaders[----] in the top row and "The REST67AThe __ of us[----] of us" in the bottom row. Try to find a connection between CORPORATETAXCUT38AFiscal measure that always goes down well with shareholders[---------------] and REST67AThe __ of us[----]. Then think about Bernie Sanders. Does that help?
