      Not really, but of I'm 100% honest, "cut" and "gains" are also not synonyms.

        Interesting! I was thinking in terms of 'profit' as the shared meaning - is that perhaps too loose?

          Oh! I was off on a completely separate idea - I was thinking about the gym!

          I'd still say they're not really synonyms, more related to one another - your gains are income minus expenses, but your cut is a portion of the gains.

          I usually use Merriam Webster to check synonyms: https://www.merriam-webster.com/thesaurus/cut
