I should've stuck with my CHAPO20DEl ___[-----] instinct! _SA _ICK _RKIN were all unknown, as well as JAMIROQUAI44AFunk band behind “Virtual Insanity”[----------]. (I considered the entire USA as a possibility but it seemed unlikely, with New York and all. No idea about CSA20AIts largest city was New Orleans, until 1982 (Abbv.)[---] as a non-American). VOLUNTOURISM47ACriticized practice that merges travel and charity[------------] is a fun portmanteau. Was this meant for a Friday?

I typically only submit themeless puzzles, as I really enjoy the creative fill. And sorry about some of the American-biased fill, I mostly do the NYT so I default to some of their crosswordese.
